MSSU's Burns, Kiprop set records as men's track competes

The Missouri Southern men's track and field team saw two records fall today in the final day of meets at home and at Pittsburg State.

At home, Bryan Burns broke his own shot put record as he finished first with a provisional distance of 59-04.75. That mark is is nine inches in front of his old mark and ranks second nationally.

At Pittsburg State, Vincent Kiprop (pictured) broke his own 3k record by more than 13 seconds as he placed second with a time of 8:04.04. That mark is second nationally, as well.

In other action at PSU, Tyler Rush was 7th in the mile in a time of 4:18.72. At home, Kennan Harrison won the triple jump with a provisional mark of 4-00.25, while Brendan Watkins and Jordyn Manier placed fifth and eighth, respectively.

Kyle Parr placed 8th in the heptathlon with a total of 4,157 points. Matt Willis and Colton Gurera placed first and second in the 600 yard with times of 1:15.02 and 1:15.55, while Victor Encarnacion and Peyton Powell placed fifth and tenth.

Keson Payton won the 60m dash in a time of 6.98, while Dausen Gourley was fourth. Luis Suaste was fourth in the 800m dash in a time of 2:02.33, while Thomas Hawkins was fourth in the 400m in a time of 52.21. Nickson Kiptoo won the mile with a time of 4:29.72, while Cody Berry, Jared Haltom, Kiptoo, Josh Webb and Ryan Drendel placed 3rd through seventh in the 3k. James Tupper was 17th in the event.

The mile relay team of Hawkins, Gurera, Encarnacion and Warren Leak won the event in the time of 3:32.18, while Cody Vogt was second in the high jump in a height of 6-07.00. Chance Johnson placed 7th in the high jump. Morgan Hold won the pole vault in a provisional height of 16-7.25, while Zach Wuest hit a provisional height of 15-05.00 to place second. Dean Howard and Cortland Potter placed fourth and sixth, respectively.
The Lions will be back in action next week with meets at both Nebraska and Central Missouri.
