Pitt State softball to play in Bentonville tournament today, Saturday

The Pitt State softball team will play its second tournament of the season on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 10-11) at the Arkansas-Monticello Classic in Bentonville, Ark. The tournament was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but was moved up due to the possibility of inclement weather on Sunday.

Games will be played at both Bentonville High School and Memorial Park. Pitt State will play Henderson State at 11 a.m. Friday on Memorial Park Field nine. Friday's 2 p.m. game against Arkansas Tech will be on Memorial Park Field 8. Saturday the Gorillas start at 10 a.m. against Arkansas Monticello at Bentonville High School, followed by a 1 p.m. game against Harding on Memorial Park Field 2. There will not be live stats or live video for any of the games.

Henderson State opened the season with a home tournament. The Reddies went 2-2 with wins over Northeastern State and Lincoln before falling to Missouri Western and Rogers State. The Reddies are hitting .244 as a team and have a 1.81 ERA.

Arkansas Tech is 3-1 on the season after opening last weekend at the Southeastern Oklahoma Regioinal Tournament. The Golden Suns' one loss was to St. Mary's. The team earned wins over Central Missouri, Emporia State and Midwestern State. The Golden Suns hit .289 as a team and have a 2.41 ERA.

This weekend will be the first games of the season for Arkansas-Monticello.

Harding opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of Missouri S & T on Feb. 4. The Bison hit .421 as a team and have a 3.50 ERA.

Pitt State went 5-1 last weekend at the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Challenge. The Gorillas' lone loss was a 1-0 loss to Rockhurst on Sunday. The Gorillas have a .303 team batting average, a .980 fielding percentage and a 1.66 ERA.

Four Pitt State players are hitting .300 or better on the season. Tiara Ewy leads the group with a .455 average. Kala Holder is hitting .421 and leads the team with eight hits. Kaity Kukowski is hitting .417. She leads teh team in runs scored (6), slugging percentage (.750) and on base percentage (.708). Lawren McKinney is hitting .308. Kylie Guthier leads the team with nin RBI and has hit two home runs. Sierra Hall has the team's lone stolen base on the season.

Emmie Robertson, the current MIAA Pitcher of the Week, leads the team with a 3-1 record with one save, 0.91 ERA, 34 strikeouts and a .146 opponent batting average. She made an appearance in all six games and threw 23.0 innings. Bree Cornett finished the week wnd 2-0 with a 2.80 ERA. In 10.0 innings she struck out six batters. Morgan Myers made two appearances and pitched 4.0 innings, while Brittany Beaudet threw 1.0 inning.
