MSSU's Holcomb, Buerge receive All-MIAA honors

Kansas City, Mo. - Senior Deb Holcomb and sophomore Desirea Buerge earned All-MIAA honors as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Despite a season ending injury agaisnt Southwest Baptist on February 9th, senior Deb Holcomb earned a second team All-MIAA nod from the league coaches on Tuesday afternoon. Holcomb finishes her career with 819 points while playing in and starting all 53 games for The Green & Gold. She also finishes her career at fourth in school history in three-point field goal percentage with a 38.1%. On the season Holcomb led the Lions with 15.6 points per game and averaged 29.7 minutes per contest.

Sophomore Desirea Buerge is currently second on the team in points per game with 12.7 per game and leads the Lions in rebounding with 6.3 boards per contest. Buerge has scored in double figures in 21 out of Southern's 28 games and tallied four double-doubles while setting a career-high with 12 rebounds against Missouri Western at home on February 15th. Buerge also leads the team in steals (37), second on the team in blocks (15), leads in field goal percentage (.483), and third in free throw percentage (.790).

Southern opens the MIAA Post-Season tournament at the 11th seed and play at sixth seeded Fort Hays State Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. The full release from the MIAA office is attached and the All-MIAA teams are listed below.
