MSSU women look to break four-game losing streak against Missouri Western

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball team looks to end a four game skid and avoid a season sweep as they host the Missouri Western Griffons Wednesday night on Robert Corn Court inside The Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

The Series
This is the 88th meeting between the sister schools, with Missouri Western holding a 52-32 advantage in the series. Three MWSU wins in the 05-06 and 06-07 seasons were vacated by the NCAA. Missouri Western won the first meeting this season 77-65 in St. Joseph. The longest winning streak for Missouri Western is 12 games from Jan. 13, 1997 thru Feb. 27, 2002 and Southern's longest winning streak was eight games, Feb. 6, 2010 thru Feb. 15, 2014.  Southern holds a 23-18 advantage over their sister school in Joplin and have won seven of the last eight inside The Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. However, the Lions have struggled at MWSU winning only eight times since the series started in 1977. The Lions started this decade 8-0 against MWSU, the best start for Southern in any decade of the series. Since then the Griffons have gone 4-1, winning the last three meetings.

The Coaches
Missouri Southern

Ronnie Ressel is in his 15th year on the staff at Missouri Southern and his first year at the helm of the women's program. During his three years as an assistant for the women, Ressel had helped the team to a 58-30 record and a 38-22 mark in the MIAA. In 2015-16 the team saw two players earn All-MIAA status as Sharese Jones was a first-team selection, while Deb Holcomb was a third-team pick.

Missouri Western
Since becoming the eighth head coach in the history of the program, Rob Edmisson has went 68-44. Ten of his players have earned All-MIAA status. In 2015-16 LaQuinta Jefferson was named MIAA Player of the Year along with picking up two All-American team selections and one All-Region selection. Missouri Western has reached the postseason in three of Edmisson's first four years with the program's first NCAA Regional bid since 2004 coming in 2015-16.
