PSU baseball completes three-game sweep with 14-8 win over University of Sioux Falls

The Pittsburg State University baseball team completed a three-game series sweep of the University of Sioux Falls Sunday (Feb. 12) with a 14-8 victory at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas (3-4) broke open a 4-3 game by outscoring the Cougars (0-3), 9-1, between the fifth and seventh innings.

Ty Rowe (1-0) worked 2 2/3 innings of two-hit relief of starter Nick Brown to earn the victory. After USF rallied from 13-4 down to get within five runs, 13-8, with the bases loaded in the eighth, reliever Cort Lesmeister got the final out of the frame and then retired USF in the ninth for the save.

Tyson Cushman drove in four runs in the contest, while Colton Pogue, Dallas Reed and Ethan Schlesener each collected two hits.

The Gorillas will face the University of Minnesota Duluth in a four-game series at Al Ortolani Field next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 18-19).
