MSSU men fall to Central Missouri 73-63

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's basketball team had three score in double-figures, but couldn't overcome a 13-5 run by Central Missouri to start the second half as the Lions fell 76-63 today in Warrensburg.

Southern (14-10, 8-7 MIAA) was led offensively by 14 points each from Elyjah Clark and CJ Carr. Carr added seven assists, while Lawrence Brown scored 10 and Kinzer Lambert had nine.

UCM (17-6, 11-4 MIAA) got 10 points from Spencer Reaves as four Mules scored in double-figures.

The Lions opened the game on an 11-2 run as a layup from Lambert with 12:15 to go in the first half gave the Lions a nine-point lead. The Southern lead reached 11 (19-8 after a three from Carr with 7:11 to go in the half.

Central, however, went on a 10-0 run and cut the lead to just one (19-18) with 4:45 to go in the half. The Lions led by four (22-18) with 3:58 to go, but Central closed the half on a 12-5 run to take a three point lead (30-27) lead into the locker room.

The Mules opened the second half on a 13-5 run to go up 43-32 with 15:02 left in the game. Southern cut the lead to five twice, the second coming after a layup from Brown made the score 47-42 with 10:59 to go, but Central went on a 15-3 run and led 62-45 with 5:52 left and didn't look back.

The Lions shot 35 percent from the field and 28 percent from three-point range, while making 75 percent of their free throws. Central Shot 44 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free throw line.

The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday as Southern plays host to Missouri Western at 7:30 pm inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
