MSSU women's cross country wins third straight event

The 13th ranked Missouri Southern women's cross country team won its third event in a row this afternoon as the Lions took home the team title at the Jackling Jocks Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T.

The Lions had four of the top seven runners and all five scoring athletes finished in the top ten, led by a second-place finish from Kaitlyn Belisle.(pictured) The senior completed the 5k course in a time of 18:03.76, finishing just seven seconds off of the lead pace. Emily Harris and Kindra Emberton placed third and fourth, finishing just behind Belisle with times of 18:04.24 and 18:07.68, respectively.

Dora Eastin placed seventh with a time of 18:40.59, while Dana Roberson was tenth in a time of 18:55.32. Sierra Gray and Addie Mengwasser placed 16th and 17th, respectively, while Kaitlin Eibl, Kayla Bartelsmeyer, and Kelly Jo Roberts finished 22-23-24. Cora Butcher Spellman placed 35th.

The Lions had 26 points, finishing 16 points in front of second-place Southwest Baptist. Pittsburg State was third, followed by Missouri S&T, William Jewell and Drury to round out the team scores.

The Lions will be back in action on November 8, traveling to Bolivar to take place in the 2014 MIAA Cross Country Championships, hosted by Southwest Baptist University.
