MSSU volleyball falls to Missouri Western

The Missouri Southern volleyball team fell in straight sets tonight, three to none. Individual set scores were 14-25, 12-25 and 22-25.

The Lions (5-17, 2-12 MIAA) were led offensively by Callie Whetstone with six kills and a .500 attack average.Krishna Merriman had five kills, while Payton Graves had four of her own. Abby Finder (pictured) dished out 18 assists and added six digs, while Cheyanne Crandall had six digs and Katie Wiele added eight.

Western (18-4, 12-2 MIAA) had two hit in double-figures for kills, led by 14 from Jessie Thorup.

The Griffons took sets one and two easily, but the Lions held a 12-9 lead midway through the third set, after a kill from Whetstone. Western tied it up at 17 and the two teams traded points until four-straight points gave the Griffons a 24-21 lead, before taking the set 25-22.

Southern will be back in action tomorrow when the Lions play at Northwest Missouri. First serve is set for 2 pm.
