Haist penalty kick lifts MSSU soccer to 1-0 win

The Missouri Southern Soccer team defeated Emporia State 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the ESU Pitch in Emporia.

The Lions (5-7-2, 3-6-1 MIAA) got the game winning goal on a penalty kick by senior Kelsey Haist in the 54th minute. The Lions out shot Emporia State (5-5-4, 2-4-4 MIAA) 16-10 with freshman Taylor Beck leading the way with four shots. Haist added three shots for Southern, while junior Karley Thomas and freshman Jacqueline Sampson added two each.

Freshman Bryar Wiley got the start in the net again for the Lions as she recorded five saves while facing the 10 Hornet shots.

Southern will be back in action on October 23 as they host Central Oklahoma. Kick off for that game is scheduled for 7pm.
