Missouri Southern soccer player Carly Cecil has been named the MIAA Women's Soccer Defender of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Cecil, a junior and native of Holt, Mo., led the Lions offensively last week as Southern broke a two-game losing streak with 6-1 and 1-0 (2OT) wins over Rogers State and Newman. Cecil collected a goal in each game with her first coming in the 32nd minute on Thursday as her shot deflected off the Hillcats' goalie for a 3-0 lead.
On Saturday Cecil had the golden goal in the 107th minute as her shot from 20 yards out was headed to the upper right 90 and ricocheted into the lower left 90 off a Newman defenders outstretched leg. On the weekend Cecil scored the 2 goal on 5 shots, 3 SOG, for a shooting percentage of .400, .600 SOG percentage.
Cecil and the Lions will be back in action this Thursday and Saturday, playing host to Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State, respectively.
