MSSU volleyball falls to Drury

The Missouri Southern volleyball team dropped a non-conference match this evening at Drury. Individual set scores were 16-25, 23-25 and 10-25.

The Lions (0-10) opened up the first set on a 6-2 run, but Drury (9-2) fought back and tied the set at ten. The Panthers went ahead 11-10 and then went on to outscore the Lions 15-6 to end the set.

Southern controlled the second set early on and led 13-5 coming out of a Drury timeout. The lead was 17-11, but the Panthers fought back and tied the set at 20. Both teams traded points, but the Lions went ahead 22-21 to force a Drury timeout. The Panthers scored two points out of the timeout to force set point, but a kill from Bridgette Jaeger got the Lions to within one. Drury, however, scored the final point to take the set.

The Panthers controlled the final set, leading from start to finish.

Southern was led by Callie Whestone as the senior had six kills and three blocks, hitting .278 in the match. Abby Finder dished out 14 assists, while Katie Wiele had a team-high 11 digs.Monica White added five kills, while Jaeger had seven digs.

The Lions will be back in action this weekend when they start MIAA play with matches at Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri.
