Missouri Southern junior safety Johnquavious McBride has been named the MIAA Football Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.
McBride, a 5-11 junior from Lithonia, Ga., led a defense that helped the Lions to a 24-14 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday. The Lions' defense held the Lopers scoreless for the final 26:28 of the game. McBride had a big interception on the Lopers' opening drive that led directly to the Lions' first score of the game.
McBride had a game-high 14 tackles, including an interception, and two pass break-ups. He helped the Lions' defense record five sacks on the night, as well as 13 pass break ups.
Southern will be back in action this Saturday as the Lions travel to Washburn University.
