(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)
Despite getting a near double-double from setter Abby Finder, the Missouri Southern volleyball program dropped a three-set match at Missouri Western tonight. Individual set scores were 21-25, 15-25 and 21-25.
The first set featured eight tied scores and one lead change. Both teams traded scores with the Lions (0-11) tying the set at 16 midway through the opener. A kill from Lauren Darby cut the Western (9-2) lead to just two (23-21), but the Griffons scored the final two points to take the set.
The second set was all Griffons, while set three was much like the fist with seven tied scores and one lead change. The third set was tied at eight and 11, but Western went on a 6-0 run to open up the set and lead 17-11. The Lions cut the lead to one (18-17) after a block from Payton Graves and Monica Whiteand forcing a Western timeout. The Griffons scored a point out of the timeout and went on to win the set.
Bridgette Jaeger and Callie Whetstone led the team with eight kills each, while Alyx Gepford had seven. Finder had 27 assists and a team-high nine digs.
Southern will be back in action tomorrow when the Lions head to Northwest Missouri. First serve is set for 6 pm.
