The Missouri Southern men's cross country team picked up an individual title today when freshman Vincent Kiproptook home the trophy as Missouri Southern played host to the NCAA Division II Central Region Cross Country Meet at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
Kiprop finished the 10k race in a time of 29:39.92 and is the first-ever men's individual region champion in the history of the program. He qualifies for the 2015 NCAA Division II National Meet to be held here in Joplin on November 21. He finished the race 12 seconds in front of his nearest competitor.
Nathan Henry placed 30th in a time of 31:41.99, while Jared Haltom was 110th in a time of 33:24.75. Jacob Coffman placed 132nd (34:07.23), while Zachk Caruthers was 148th in a time of 34:49.10. Luke Johnson rounded out the Lions' times with a 162nd place finish in a time of 35:50.66.
Augustana won the team title with 82 points, while East Central placed second with 104. Nebraska-Kearney, Southwest Baptist and Minnesota State-Moorhead round out the top five and all five schools have qualified for the national meet.
Joining Kiprop as individuals qualifying for nationals is Fort Hays State's Cory Keehn and Pittsburg State's Austin Bogina.
Missouri Southern will serve as the host for the 2015 NCAA Division II National Meet. The race will be ran on November 21 at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course inside the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
