Missouri Southern freshman distance runnerVincent Kiprop will be the Lions' lone repesenative as MSSU plays host to the 2015 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships Saturday morning at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course inside the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
Kiprop picked up his USTFCCCA Central Region Male Athlete of the Year trophy tonight at the Championship Banquet held inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Kiprop, a native of Kericho, Kenya, started the season with a win at the Southern Stamped in his first-ever collegiate meet. He finished second later in the season at the Jackling Jocks Invite hosted by Missouri S&T, but has won the last two meets in a row, winning the MIAA Championship by 28.9 seconds and then winning the Regional by 11 seconds.
His time at the Regional was the fourth-fastest time of any men's 10k runner in the Division II Regional races this year.
The men's 10k championship will begin at 11:15 am.
