Missouri Southern freshman cross country runner Vincent Kiprop has been named the NCAA Division II Central Region Athlete of the Year as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Kiprop, a native of Kericho, Kenya, started the season with a win at the Southern Stamped in his first-ever collegiate meet. He finished second later in the season at the Jackling Jocks Invite hosted by Missouri S&T, but has won the last two meets in a row, winning the MIAA Championship by 28.9 seconds and then winning the Regional by 11 seconds.
Kiprop has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship meet that will be hosted by Missouri Southern on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin. HIs time at the Regional was the fourth-fastest time of any men's 10k runner in the Division II Regional races this year.
