The Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country programs will play host to the 2015 NCAA Division II Central Region Meet tomorrow morning at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course inside the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
The women's 6k race will begin at 10 am, while the men's 10k race will start at 11:15 am.
The Southern women come into the race ranked sixth in the latest regional poll, while the men are not ranked. This year's National Championships will be held at the same course on the campus of Missouri Southern on November 21.
This year, both genders will qualify five teams to the National Race. In addition to the top five teams in each gender, the top three individuals who are not part of a qualifying team will automatically advance to the championship. Also to note that the top five individuals who finish in the regional meet that aren't part of a qualifying team will advance. Meaning, if the top five individuals are all not part of an advancing team, all five advance, instead of the top three.
The Southern women placed second at the 2015 MIAA Championships with Emily Harris and Kindra Emberton placing fourth and seventh, respectively. On the men's side the team placed seventh overall with freshman Vincent Kiprop winning the individual title.
In the latest regional rankings, the top ten on the men's side consisted of Augustana, Nebraska-Kearney, Pittsburg State, East Central, Sioux Falls, Fort Hays State, Northwest Missouri, Minnesota State Moorhead and Harding. The top ten on the women's side consisted of Minnesota-Duluth, Mary, Augustana, Harding, Southwest Baptist, Missouri Southern, Winona State, Fort Hays State, Northern State and Pittsburg S
tate.
