Missouri Southern soccer coach resigns

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Missouri Southern Director of Athletics Jared Bruggeman has announced that he has been offered and accepted the resignation of soccer coach Alese Woolard, effective immediately. Assistant coach Stephanie Kirvan will remain on as the interim head coach while a search for Woolard's replacement is conducted.

Woolard coached the Lions for six seasons recording a record of 30-62-16. She reached the MIAA tournament in 2011 when the team played for the MIAA Tournament title. The Lions started the season 0-7-1 and finished 9-3. In 2013 the Lions defeated nationally ranked Central Missouri in Warrensburg, 2-1.

Woolard coached 19 All-MIAA student-athletes including one first-team selection, three second-team picks, one third-team pick and 14 honorable mention selections.

Woolard is an alum of the Missouri Southern soccer and softball programs, graduating from Missouri Southern in 2005. She served as an assistant coach from 2006-2009 before taking over the reigns as head coach in 2010.

A national search for Woolard's replacement will be conducted immediately.

"I'd like to thank Coach Woolard for her tireless dedication and continued support toward Missouri Southern soccer and the athletic department, as a whole," Bruggeman said. "She has been a true ambassador to Missouri Southern in her time here as a coach and as a student-athlete and we wish her the best in her future."

"After 12 years of being associated with this program it is very difficult to step away," Woolard said. "I am grateful for the opportunity the athletic department has given me to share in the lives of so many talented young women. As an alumnus, I still have a vested interest in the program. There are many challenges yet to overcome and I hope steps are continually made to help the program be more successful."
