The Missouri Southern women's cross country team placed seventh overall, while Emily Harris placed 14th, as the Lions played host to the NCAA Division II Central Region Cross Country meet today at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course inside the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
Emily Harris led the Lions' effort, placing 14th, finishing just 18 seconds from qualifying for nationals. She ran the 6k course in a time of 21:32.55. Cynthia Torres placed 22nd in a time of 21:55.45 as both her and Harris earned All-Region honors for their effort.
Kindra Emberton was 31st with a time of 22:10.60, while Sarah Usher placed 58th in a time of 22:51.37. Sierra Gray was 76th in a time of 23:15.42, while Amber White placed 118th with a time of 24:07.33. Shelby Werner placed 164th in a time of 25:15.25.
Southwest Baptist won the team title with 79 points followed by Minnesota-Duluth, Augustana, the University of Mary and Harding to round out the top five. All five schools qualified their teams for nationals. Mary's Alexis Zeis was the individual champion, while Northern State's Sasha Hovind and Dakota Bullen, as well as Nebraska-Kearney's Morgan Benesch qualified as individuals for the national meet.
Missouri Southern will serve as the host for the 2015 NCAA Division II National Meet. The race will be ran on November 21 at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course inside the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
