MSSU women's track takes second at MIAA championships

The Missouri Southern women's track and field team finished second in the 2014 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center this weekend.
The Lions had three event wins and seven All-MIAA performances on the day. 
Kylie Cornman started things out with a win in the shot put. The senior hit a provisional mark and took home the title in a distance of 47-07.75. 
Kindra Emberton took home the title in the mile with a provisional time of 5:01.74, while Emily Harris earned All-MIAA status with a third place finish in the mile in a time of 5:03.61. 
Kaitlyn Belisle won the 3k, one day after taking home the title in the 5k. Belisle took the lead on the final lap and cruised to a provisional time of 9:57.80, while Cassy Kendrick and Sierra Gray placed sixth and 11th in the event. 
Kaylee Morgan placed third in the long jump with an All-MIAA jump of 19-00.50. Brittani Reagan was fourth in the event, while Taitum Mead and Amber White placed 13th and 21st in the event. White was second in the 400m dash with a provisional time of 55.90, while Sydney Potts placed third in the 600 yard run, both earning All-MIAA honors.
Whitney Hardy and Shelby Sutherland placed 5th and 8th in the high jump, while Jasmin Hughes was 8th in the 60m dash. Hughes placed fifth in the 200m dash in a provisional time of 25.37, while Emberton and Emily Harris placed 5th and 8th in the 800m.
The mile relay team of Hughes, Hardy, White and Potts placed ninth.
The Lions scored 123.5 points to finish second in the team standings. Lincoln won the team title with 153 points, while Central Missouri was third with 82 points. Pittsburg State was fourth, while Southwest Baptist, Nebraska-Kearney, Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Northwest Missouri, Central Oklahoma and Lindenwood round out the team titles.
Overall in the meet, the Lions won five events and had 14 All-MIAA performances in total. Below are a list of those performances. The Lions will wait to see which athletes have qualified for nationals that will take place on March 13-15 in Winston Salem, NC.
