The Missouri Southern baseball team dropped a pair of games today as the Lions fell in both ends of a double-header at the Lou Brock Sports Complex to Lindenwood University.
The Lions (13-6, 9-5 MIAA) fell behind in game one, 1-0, as Lindenwood (6-12, 4-6 MIAA) got a run in the first when Ryan Light doubled home Mike Failoni to put the Lions up early.
Southern answered back, however, as the Lions scored two runs in the fourth and one each in the fifth and the sixth. Mitchell Osburn scored an unearned run to start things off in the fourth and Tee Helsel scored on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Weller as well in the inning.
The Lions got a run in the fifth on an RBI from Logan Moon, scoring Evin Natick, while scored on an error in the sixth to put Southern up 4-1.
Lindenwood scored another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to force extra innings. In extras, Lindenwood's Branden Sugar homered in the eighth for the game-winner.
David Reese started for the Lions and went six innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out six, while walking two. Stephen Vaughn and Josh Engler pitched in relief with Engler (0-1) picking up the loss.
Moon, Weller, Harper, Ewing, and Natick had the Lions' five hits with Moon and Weller driving in the lone RBIs for the team.
Southern got on top first in game two as Weller tripled home both Axel Johnson and Moon to give the Lions an early 2-0 lead.
Lindenwood would get a run in the first to cut the lead in half, but would add three more in the third and another in the fourth to put the game away.
Payton Walker started and went four innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out three to move his record to 4-1 on the season. Engler and Kanon Hoover threw in relief for Southern.
Weller went 2-3 in the game with a pair of RBIs, while Moon, Johnson, and Jared Lupo had hits of their own. Moon and Johnson scored a run each.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow in a double-header beginning at 1 pm.
