Southern baseball drops two to Lindenwood

he 18th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team dropped both ends of a double-header today at Lindenwood, falling 4-3 in game one and 7-3 in the finale. 
Southern (13-8, 9-7 MIAA) opened up the scoring in game one by plating three runs in the top of the third. Austin White reached on an error to start the inning then scored when Mitchell Osburn singled and scored on an error on the play. Axel Johnson then drove home Osburn on a sacrifice fly and Brandon Weller doubled home Logan Moonfor the third run of the inning. 
Lindenwood (8-12, 6-6 MIAA) scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to tie it up. The Lions then scored the game winnier in the seventh when Mike Wilson singled home Marshall Vallandingham. 
Ryan Bates started for the Lions and went 4.2 innings, striking out one and allowing three runs. Josh Engler threw two-thirds of an inning in relief and Stephen Vaughn was saddled with his first loss of the season. 
Weller went 2-2 with an RBI, while Osburn, Moon, and Zack Steadman had a hit each in the game. 
Lindenwood scored five runs over the first three innings of game two to break the game open. 
The Lions, however, responded with three runs in the fourth. Dusty Harper doubled home both Beau Phillips andRobbe Ewing, while Steadman drove in Harper for the third run of the inning. 
Lindenwood added another two runs in the sixth to put the game away. 
Southern had seven different Lions with a hit each from Steadman, Osburn, Moon, White, Ewing, Harper and Jared Lupo, Ewing, Phillips and Harper scored, while Harper drove in two and Steadman one. 
Drew Noble started and went two innings. Matt Harvey went 3.2 innings, striking out four and allowing two unearned runs, while Kanon Hoover threw the final two and a third of hitless action. 
Southern will be back in action with a mid-week game on Tuesday against College of the Ozarks at 3 pm from Joe Becker Stadium. The Lions will then travel to Central Missouri next weekend for an MIAA series against the Mules.
