The Missouri Southern men's basketball team, fresh off a 2014 MIAA Basketball Tournament Championship, is back in the national rankings this week as the Lions moved into the final poll of 2014 at No. 19.
This is the second time the Lions have been ranked this year as the team was ranked 22nd in late January. Southern has been ranked 55 times in the program's history. The most consecutive weeks the Lions have spent in the poll is 23-straight weeks, which covers part of the 2010-11/2011-12 seasons.
Southern is the No. 3 seed at the NCAA Division II Central Regional this weekend in Mankato, Minn. The No. 1 seed Mavericks are ranked ninth nationally and Central Missouri is ranked 20th, one spot behind the Lions. The fourth seed in the regional, Winona State, is receiving votes in the national poll.
The Lions open up the tournament at Noon this Saturday against Fort Hays State.
