Missouri Southern head basketball coach Jeff Boschee has announced the addition of Division I transfer Vince Fritz.
Fritz, a 6-2 guard, comes to Southern from Sacred Heart University. In five games last season for the Pioneers, Fritz scored five points in limited action. He averaged 5.6 minutes per game on the season.
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Fritz prepped at Blue Valley Northwest High School where he played for coach and father Ed Fritz. A four-year letter winner, Fritz was a two-time first-team EKL selection, while also being named All-State twice. Also a member of the football team at Northwest, He was an All-League punter and defensive back.
On the basketball court, Fritz is the third-leading scorer in school history. He helped lead his team to two Kansas State Championships, including a perfect 25-0 mark his junior campaign and a number 19 national ranking according to USA Today.
A member of a basketball family, Fritz's father is the boys basketball coach at Northwest, while his mother, Ann is the girls basketball coach. His father played basketball at Baker University, while his mother played at the University of Nebraska. His grandfather, Vince Costello, is a member of the Cleveland Browns Hall of Fame.
"We are excited to add Vince to our program," Boschee said. "Vince is a kid we recruited out of high school. He will give us some toughness on both ends of the floor along with an ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter. We are extremely excited to add him to our family."
