Missouri Southern baseball players Cody Hutchinson and Chris Hoffman helped the Lions to a 4-1 week last week and have swept the MIAA/AstroTurf Players of the Week awards the league announced today.
Hoffman, a 6-1 junior and native of Lake Villa, Ill., had a huge week for the Lions as he helped Southern to a 4-1 record on the week. In the double-header against Washburn on Thursday, Hoffman went 6-8, with six hits, six runs scored, three home runs, a double and six RBI's.
He followed that up with a 2-3 performance against Washburn on Friday, with an RBI and two runs scored. He finished the week with a hit and an RBI. For the week, Hoffman went 10-18, driving in 10, scoring 8 runs, while adding a double and three home runs.
Hutchinson, a 6-1 junior and native of Owasso, Okla., had a gem of a game this week as he threw a complete game win against Washburn. He limited the Washburn hitters to just six hits and one earned run, striking out six and walking one. With the exception of a lone home run surrendered, only two batters reached second base and no other batter reached third.
The 19th ranked Lions are in action today with a non-conference game at Southwest Baptist. First-pitch is slated for 3 pm.
