Missouri Southern junior center fielder Chris Hoffman has been named a finalist for the Tino Martinez Division II Player of the Year Award.
The award is named after the former University of Tampa Spartan, United States Olympian, first round draft pick and MLB All-Star, Tino Martinez. Martinez was a three-time All-American and still holds a number of UT records including career home runs (54), career slugging percentage (.736), career on base percentage (.494), single season batting average (.452) and single season slugging percentage (.957).
Hoffman, a 6-1 native of Lake Villa, Ill, is in his first season with the Lions. He is currently leading the team with a .440 batting average, 45 runs scored, 66 hits, 11 doubles, three doubles, 15 stolen bases and a .500 on base percentage. He is second on the team with seven home runs and 36 RBis.
Hoffman has 22 multiple hit games this year and has had seven multiple RBI games. He is tied for the team lead with an 11-game hitting streak from earlier in the season and has helped lead the Lions to a 31-9 record and first place in the MIAA with a 22-5 conference record.
Hoffman ranks 16th nationally in batting average and second in the MIAA. He is 21st in hits nationally and second in the MIAA, while ranking second in the MIAA in on base percentage, sixth in runs scored, fifth in total bases and seventh in triples and slugging percentage.
