Missouri Southern golf team sits in 10th after first day of the MIAA Championships at Alvamar Country Club.
Senior Ryan Buerk is leading the way for the Lions as he is tied for 12th at 7-over, five shots off the lead held by UCM's Cy Mortiz (2-over). Junior Ethan Hutcheson is tied for 41st at 15-over, sophomore Trae Fairchild is tied for 44th at 16-over, freshman Chas Goines is currently tied for 48th two strokes back at 18-over, and sophomoreTaylor Lansford is in a tie for 53rd at +23.
Buerk picked up three birdies on the day, two on the front nine and one on the back nine, while Lansford and Goines picked up one each on the front nine.
"Obviously I am disappointed in the outcome today. I think the course was a little wet and it effected everyone. We just need to do a better job at adjusting and come out tomorrow and play our game," said Coach Wheeler.
Central Missouri leads after day one at 22-over par (322) and Central Oklahoma is in second with a team total of 315 (+27). Washburn (+34, 322) sits in third, Lindenwood (323, +35), and Lincoln (325, +37) round out the top 10. Nebraska-Kearney is in sixth at 327 +39, Southwest Baptist is at seventh at 329 +41, Northeastern State sits in eighth at 333 +45, and Missouri Western at ninth with a round one total of 335 +47. The Lions are next in tenth and Fort Hays State rounds out the 11 team field with a total of 348 +60.
Southern will be in the first group starting on the front nine tomorrow with the first tee time scheduled for 9:10 am.
