(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)
The 19th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team scored eight runs over the first two innings and Cody Hutchinson threw a complete-game gem, as the Lions took game three of the series 8-1 today at the MSSU Baseball Field.
Southern (25-6, 16-3 MIAA) scored five runs in the first. Richie Gorski started things with a triple to right field. He scored on an RBI single from Chris Hoffman. Jon Davis singled home Hoffman and Axel Johnson followed up with an RBI single, scoring Davis. Mitchell Osburn finished off the scoring with an RBI double to right center, scoring Johnson and Tee Helsel.
The Lions added another three runs in the second on a three-run home run from Jesse Rall.
After Southern chased Washburn (21-11, 14-9 MIAA) starter Tanner Kilmer, Hank Wellborn came in and threw five hitless innings, holding the Lions in check.
The Ichabods got a run in the fifth on a homer from Kyle Carnahan, but that would be all Washburn would get off of Hutchinson.
Hutchinson went all nine, striking out six and walking just one, while scattering six hits and allowing only one run.
Rall went 1-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Gorski, Hoffman and Davis had a pair of hits each. Osburn drove in two, while Hoffman, Davis and Johnson drove in a run each.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as the two teams will hook up for the series finale. First pitch in the single, nine-inning affair is slated for 1 pm.
