Eleven MSSU softball players named to MIAA Academic Honor Roll

Eleven Missouri Southern softball student-athletes were named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the conference today. In addition, Dawn Grass and Kathryn Goins earned the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award.
To achieve honor roll status, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
Southern was represented on the honor roll by seniors Chloe Brown (3.12 - Kinesiology), Shelby Romines (3.19 - Elementary Education) and Grass (3.51 - Kinesiology), juniors Brooke Swadley (3.51 - Kinesiology) and Goins (3.83 - Management) and sophomores Dru Coleman (3.04 - Biology), Rachel Harding (3.24 - Marketing Management), Alana Hester (3.73 - Criminal Justice), Haley Kinnison (3.42 - Elementary Education), Sarah Williams (3.16 - Elementary Education) and Michala Wood (3.16 - Biology).
The MIAA Scholar Athlete Award is awarded to those who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms, and, if competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, earn All-MIAA honors.
Grass earned MIAA Scholar Athlete honors as the senior from Ballwin carries a 3.51 GPA in kinesiology. She earned her second career All-MIAA honors last week after starting 52 games this spring finishing second on the club with a .346 batting average while leading the team in hits (55), RBI's (33), total bases (84), walks (20), slugging percentage (.528) and on-base percentage (.414). Dawn will graduate from Missouri Southern on Saturday as the all-time leader in program history in home runs (28), while ranking second in at-bats (630) and walks (87), third in games played (212) and putouts (1,258), fourth in RBI's (122) and tied for sixth in hits (183).
A native of Van Buren, Ark., Goins earned MIAA Scholar Athlete honors as the junior carries a team-high 3.83 GPA in management. An All-MIAA honorable mention honoree, Goins appeared in 45 games for the Lions hitting a team-high seven home runs while scoring 18 runs and driving in 24 RBI's and slugged .492%. She was especially hot in the MIAA season as she hit .338 in 24 MIAA games collecting 26 hits, six doubles, four home runs and totaled a team-best 44 bases while registering eight multi-hit games.
