MSSU's Hill, Vaughan combine to shut out Pitt State

The Missouri Southern baseball team picked up a win today as Skylar Hill and Stephen Vaughn combined to shutout Pittsburg State today and the Lions won 3-0 in a Sonic Trophy Series matchup at Al Ortolani Field in Pittsburg. 
Southern (19-12) picks up a non-conference win over the Gorillas (13-18) as Hill went seven and two thirds scoreless, striking out six and walking just three. He scattered six hits in the appearance. Vaughn threw a hitless inning and a third, striking out one. 
Southern scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to go up 2-0. Axel Johnson singled to the left side of the infield scoring Logan Moon who had tripled to start the inning. Brandon Weller then sacrificed Johnson to second and Robbe Ewing singled home Johnson. 
Weller then added an RBI single in the eighth, scoring Moon for an insurance run. 
Moon went 2-3 with two runs scored, while Johnson, Weller and Ewing had two hits each. Johnson, Weller and Ewing had RBIs, while Johnson scored the other run. 
The Lions will be back in action this weekend with a series at Northwest Missouri.
