MSSU Golf concludes play in MIAA Tournament

The Missouri Southern golf team finished in ninth place today at the 2014 MIAA Golf Championships held at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan. 
Ryan Buerk led the way for the Lions and finished tied for 15th with a final round, two-over par 74 to shoot nine-over for the tournament and finish with a three-round total of 225. 
Ryan Russell finished with a three-round total of 234 to finish 39th, while Ethan Hutcheson shot a 235 and finished tied for 40th. Taylor Lansford shot a 237, while Andrew Maier finished with a final-round 77 to shoot 241 for the tournament. 
Central Missouri won the team title with a three-round team total of 867, 16 strokes in front of second-place Northeastern State. Central Oklahoma and Lincoln tied for third, while Lindenwood and Washburn tied for fifth. Missouri Western was seventh, followed by Nebraska-Kearney, Southern, Fort Hays, Southwest Baptist and Pittsburg State to round out the team scores. 
This event was the final MIAA point event of the season and counted double in the point totals. The Lions finished in tenth place with 25.5 points. Central Missouri took the MIAA title with 56 points and earn the MIAA's automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament. 
The Lions also claim the Sonic Trophy Series point over Pittsburg State as Southern finished 16.5 points in front of the Gorillas.
