Missouri Southern women's basketball coach Ronda Hubbard has announced the signing of junior college transfer Tami Morice to a National Letter of Intent to attend Southern beginning in the fall of 2014.
Morice, a 5-11 guard, comes to Southern out of Kishwaukee Community College in Malta, Illinois, where she put together a distinguished junior college career. She earned second-team All-American honors along with Region IV MVP honors this past year, while averaging 18.1 points and eight rebounds per game and shooting 82 percent from the free-throw line.
Morice completed her two-year career at KCC as the all-time leading scorer in school history tallying 1,250 points, scoring 641 points as a freshman in 2012-13, the second-highest single season scoring total in program history. Helping the Kougars go undefeated at home during her two-year career, Morice was an NJCAA All-American nominee along with first-team All-Region IV and Region IV All-Tournament Team in 2013. Tami set the single season free throw percentage hitting 81.7% from the charity stripe while averaging 19.4 points per game, the ninth highest single season avg. in school history in 2013.
Prior to arriving at Kishwaukee, Morice prepped at Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois where she was a four-year starter and letterwinner for head coach Kim Connell. She set the school career record for points scoring 1,257 points earning three all-conference honors and three Daily Herald All-Area honors in her final three years.
In addition to all-conference and Daily Herald honors, Morice also earned three Naperville Sun All-Area honors, including second-team nods as a junior and senior. She was also an IBCA All-State Special mention as a junior and senior while earning three Beacon News All-Area honors as a freshman, sophomore and senior. Morice helped lead the Warriors to three regional championships and two conference championships as WVHS advanced to the Sweet 16 of the State Tournament in her sophomore year in 2010. In addition to her high school accolades, Morice also played AAU ball for the Illinois Central Elite where she helped lead I.C.E. to the national championship.
The daughter of Ron and Vicki Morice, Tami plans to major in psychology at Southern. Tami has a brother, Mike, who played volleyball at Loyola University (Ill.) in Chicago who also played overseas in Austria.
"We are thrilled to have Tami join our Lion Family," Hubbard said. "It's pretty clear that being named an All-American indicates that she is one of the best players coming out of junior college this year. Tami is a scorer with great versatility. She can shoot the three, as well as get to the rim, and shoots a high percentage from the free-throw line. With her size, Tami shows a great ability to rebound and defend taller guards. We certainly expect her to have a major impact on our team right away."
Hubbard and the Lions will announce one more signing tomorrow.
