The Missouri Southern golf team is tied for ninth after day one of the 2014 MIAA Golf Championships held at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan.
Ryan Buerk leads the Lions and is tied for 16th with a first-round, two-over par 74. Ryan Russell is tied for 29th with a 76, while Taylor Lansford shot a 78 to finish tied for 38th.
Ethan Hutcheson finished with an 81, while Andrew Maier shot an 88.
Central Missouri leads the team competition with a five-under team total of 283. Northeastern State is second, eight strokes back, while Washburn, Lindenwood and Lincoln round out the top five team scores. Missouri Western is sixth, followed by Central Oklahoma, Nebraksa-Kearney, Fort Hays, Southern, Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist.
The Lions will play 18 holes tomorrow, followed by another 18 on Wednesday.
