The Missouri Southern baseball team picked up a pair of home runs in game two and saw two stellar pitching performances in a double-header sweep of Lindenwood, 4-3 and 8-1.
Southern (9-0, 3-0 MIAA) got complete-game wins in both ends of the double-header today. Chris Hoffmanstarted game one and went all seven, scattering eight hits, allowing one earned run and striking out three, while walking none.
MSSU scored all four of its runs in the third on RBI doubles from Evin Natick and Richie Gorski.
Lindenwood scored three late, but Hoffman held on for the win.
Gorski went 2-3 with a double and two driven in. Natick went 2-3 with two driven in, one score and two doubles. Hoffman went 2-3 with a score, while Robbe Ewing and Chad Hoffman had a hit each.
Southern jumped on Lindenwood in the first inning of game two, scoring three runs, two unearned. The Lions added two more runs in the third when Axel Johnson homered to left field, scoring Gorski. Shannon scored a run in the fourth and Gorski added another score with a home run in the fifth, while Hoffman drove in Shannon with an RBI double in the sixth.
Payton Walker started and went all seven innings, scattering seven hits and striking out nine, while walking none and allowing just one run for his third win of the year.
Gorski went 3-4 with a pair of runs, a home run, a double and an RBI. Shannon went 2-3 with three runs scored, while Johnson drove in a pair with a home run. Natick went 2-3 in the game, while Jon Davis and Tee Helselscored a run each.
The two teams will finish off the four-game series Monday afternoon with a single, nine-inning game at 1 pm.
