Missouri Southern junior running back Chris Barnwell has been named an honorable mention All-American selection by Don Hansen today.
Barnwell, a 6-1 fullback from Savannah, Ga., was named a first-team All-Region selection earlier. A third-team All-MIAA pick this season, Barnwell led the Lions this season with 878 yards and finished second on the team with seven rushing touchdowns. He helped the Lions to lead the MIAA in rushing for the second-straight season as Southern had a 1,000 more yards than second-place Pittsburg State. Barnwell was sixth in the MIAA in rushing as the Lions also broke school records for rushing yardage (3,684) and rushing touchdowns (42), both of which were set last season. Southern also broke the single-season rushing attempts record with 597 on the season, besting the mark of 581 set last year.
He helped the Lions lead Division II in time of possession this year holding the ball for an average of 35:14 per game. Southern also ranked second in Division II in rushing yards per game. In all, the Lions ranked in the top ten nationally in nine different categories, while ranking 14th in turnovers lost.
The Lions finished the season with a 7-3 record this sesaon.
