Monday was the deadline to make offers to arbitration-eligible players and two pitchers who spent part of the 2013 season in the St. Louis Cardinals' bullpen were among those who did not receive contract offers.
John Axford, the former Brewers closer, spent the last part of the season with the Redbirds and performed well, but he stood to make far more money than the younger pitchers who handled the bulk of the work for St. Louis at the end of the season and through their run to the World Series.
The Colorado Rockies did not offer a contract for former Cardinals reliever Mitchell Boggs, who started the 2013 season as St. Louis' closer, but had little success.
