The Missouri Southern State softball program will host a Winter Camp on January 18 featuring both hitting and pitching camps on the campus of Missouri Southern for ages 8-18.
The MSSU Winter Camp will be held on Saturday, January 18, in Young Gymnasium. Hitting instruction will be go on from 9 am - Noon for a $60 fee. Pitching Instruction will be done in the afternoon from 1 pm - 4 pm for a cost of $75. Those participating in both camps can do so for a $10 discount.
Head Softball Coach, Bill Gray, and assistant coach, Nicole Hudson will be the lead instructors of both the hitting and pitching camps. They will be assisted by members of the 2014 softball team. Participants in the hitting camp should bring a bat, batting gloves and helmet. Participants in the pitching camp must have a catcher with them and an appropriate sized softball to pitch.
All participants signing up by January 9th will receive a camp T-shirt. Registrations following this date are not guaranteed a shirt. Camp is open for campers 8-18. Campers will be grouped according to age and ability. Both camps are limited to 50 participants. Sign up can be done at www.mssusoftballcamps.com. For more information contact Bill Gray 417-625-9873.
Hitting Camp: Hitting camp will be broken down into basic and advanced instruction. All players will receive instruction on stance and swing mechanics. Players will also be given instruction on topics from choosing the proper bat to game time adjustments. Players will be hitting off of tees, soft toss, front toss and pitching machines.
Pitching Camp: Pitchers will work on the basic skills for each pitch focusing on spin, stride, and body position. Emphasis will be put on the fast ball, drop ball, rise ball and change up. Pitchers without a catcher will throw to each other when working on pitches.
