The St. Louis Cardinals appear to be ready to add a veteran second baseman.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Mark Ellis, who has been the Dodgers' second baseman for the past two years, is about to sign a one-year contract.
Ellis is expected to provide a righthanded complement to Kolten Wong at second base with Matt Carpenter moving to third to replace the traded David Freese.
Ellis, 36, has also played some at shortstop and third base, but his primary position is second.
