MSSU baseball to conclude regular season this weekend

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern baseball team will conclude the regular season as Southern travels to Lindenwood this weekend for a three-game series starting on Friday.

Friday's start has been pushed up from a 6 pm start to now at 1 pm due to anticipated weather Friday night. Saturday's game will begin at 3 pm, while Sunday's start is slated for 1 pm.

Southern is 21-9 in the MIAA and 30-16 overall. It is the sixth 30-win season in Bryce Darnell's tenure as head coach at MSSU. Southern is one game back in the standings in the MIAA behind Central Missouri and two games up on Central Oklahoma and Emporia State who are tied for fourth-place. A win by Southern at any point in the weekend will ensure MSSU of at least a top-2 seed in the MIAA Tournament which will take place next weekend at Pittsburg State.

Southern leads the MIAA in walks, doubles, home runs, shutouts, strikeouts per nine and strikeout to walk ratio, while ranking second in triples, slugging, runs, on-base percentage and hit by pitch.

Mike Million leads the MIAA in walks, while Freddie Landers leads the MIAA in hit by pitch as his 18 this season has set a new MSSU single-season record. Zach Parish leads the conference in games started, strikeouts, WHIP and wins, while ranking third in ERA. His 120 strikeouts this season is a new single-season MSSU record, while the team's total of 486 is also a single-season record.

Lindenwood is 26-21 overall and 17-13 in the MIAA. LU is hitting .298 as a team and carries a 4.81 ERA. DJ Miller leads Lindenwood with a .366 average, while hitting five home runs and driving in 44 runs. Neil Fischer leads the team with seven home runs and 52 RBIs. Eric Hipp leads the team with a 1.58 ERA out of the bullpen, going 5-3 on the season. Michael Cessna, another reliever, also has five wins (5-4) on the season to share the team-high in that category.
