Missouri Southern men's basketball adds two recruits

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Missouri Southern men's basketball coachJeff Boschee has announced the addition of a pair of freshman for the 2019-20 season to join an already talented Lions squad.

Winston Dessesow of Baltimore, Md. and Tyriqe Jackson of Lonoke, Ark. will join a team that finished the season 25-8 and earned a trip to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16.

Dessesow is a 6-0 guard that played at Admiral Farragut Academy in Baltimore for coach Julian Allen and the Blue Jackets. A four-year letter winner on the court, Dessesow averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals as a senior.

Dessesow was a two-time All-Conference pick and was named All-County as a senior when he concluded his career as a 1,000 point scorer for the team. The son of Dayna Davis, Dessesow plans to major in kinesiology at Southern.

Jackson is a 6-6 combo guard that prepped at Lonoke High School for coach Dean Campbell and the Jackrabbits. A four-year letter winner at the school, Jackson was a 1,000 point scorer, as well, while earning All-Conference honors three times, as well as All-State honors as a senior.

He scored a career-high 38 points in a game against Malvern as a senior. The son of Lester Jackson, Tyriqe plans to major in kinesiology at Southern.

"We are excited to add Winston and Tyrique to our 2019 class," Boschee said. "The two of them, along with Martin (Macenis) are needed young pieces added to this program. We emphasize great character with our recruits and these two exemplify that. Winston is a guard who can really handle and score the ball. He has the ability to play both guard spots. Tyrique gives us length and size on the perimeter. I really love his athleticism and ability to shoot the ball. Both had great high school careers and we are looking forward to coach them through their college careers."
