Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team dropped a pair of opening matches today at the Peggy Martin Classic hosted by the University of Central Missouri.
The Lions (0-2) dropped the first match of the day to Drury (1-1), three sets to none. Individual set scores were 16-25, 23-25 and 14-25. Southern dropped the second match to 14th-ranked Arkansas Tech (1-1) three sets to none. Individual set scores were 23-25, 23-25 and 20-25.
Against Drury, the Lions were led by Janelle Brehm as the sophomore had 14 kills and nine digs. Morgan Nash had a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs, while Bridgette Jaeger had a team-high 15 digs. Lydia Wiegand had nine digs, while Shaylon Sharp and Alicia Pickett had five and four kills, respectively.
Drury had two in double-figure kills with 11 from Bentley Mara, while Kendra Sater had 29 assists.
Against Arkansas Tech, Brehm once again led the Lions with 11 kills and eight digs. Nash had 22 assists and eight digs, while Jaeger had a match-high 17 digs.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow with a match at 11 am against Truman and another at 5 pm against No. 4 Florida Southern.
