Coleman, Lankford, Brecheen inducted into Cardinals Hall of Fame

One of the best things the St. Louis Cardinals ownership has done in recent years has been the establishment of the Cardinals Hall of Fame.

Three former players, 1940s starting pitcher Harry Brecheen, base stealing wonder Vince Coleman and Ray Lankford, were inducted into the Hall of Fame Saturday. Normally, Cardinals fans who couldn't be in St. Louis for the ceremony would be able to watch it that day on Fox Sports Midwest, but because the Cardinals game was on FS1, the induction ceremony wasn't shown until Monday night.

A highlight of that ceremony was the long, but touching, speech given by Coleman, the only major league baseball player to ever steal 100 or more bases in three consecutive years.

In the speech, Coleman told what the Cardinals meant to him, singling out his manager Whitey Herzog, Cardinal legends Willie McGee and Ozzie Smith and naming nearly every player who played with him on those Whitey Ball teams of the '80s.

It has been more than three decades since Coleman recorded one of the most incredible rookie seasons in the history of major league baseball.

It seems like it was only yesterday.
