Cardinals welcome back Matt Adams

The St. Louis Cardinals claimed first baseman/outfielder Matt "Big City" Adams off waivers from the Washington Nationals today, returning him to the team he called home until this year.

In a tweet, Adams said he noticed something special was happening with the Cardinals when the Nationals played in St. Louis recently and he is happy to be a part of it.

His old friend and teammate Matt Carpenter jokingly said that he rejected Adams' pleas for the magic salsa that has accompanied the Cardinals' drive back to contention for a playoff berth.

"Now my friend, I shall bathe you in it," Carpenter tweeted.
