The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up a pair of MIAA weekly award winners today as Morgan Smith and Payton Roberts were both honored when the MIAA announced its Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week today.
Roberts, a junior from Newton, Kan., shares the women's Field Athlete of the Week honor with Heaven Lander of Pittsburg State. Roberts posted the third-best shot put in the history of MSSU as she won the event at the Northwest Open and hit an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 15.62m (51-03.00). Her mark is the third-best in Division II this year and tops in the MIAA.
Smith, a senior from Raymore, Mo., won the 60m hurdles in an NCAA provisional time of 8.67 at the Northwest Open on Saturday, Jan. 19. Her time tied her own mark for the third-best in the history of the program. Smith was also part of a school-record breaking 4x400m relay team that won the event at Northwest in a time of 3:54.43.
The Lions are back in action this weekend with a meet at Pittsburg State University.
