MSSU men back in action at Northeastern State Thursday night

The Missouri Southern men's basketball team will head back out on the road as the Lions travel to Northeastern State Thursday night. Tip off from the NSU Event Center is slated for 7:30 pm.

The Series


Southern has won eight out of the last 11 meetings between the two schools and hold an overall record of 22-17 against the RiverHawks.The Lions' 77-69 overtime win at home in 2006 stopped a three-game losing streak to the RiverHawks. Southern had won just three times in Tahlequah, but the Lions picked up a win at Jack Dobbins Fieldhouse in 2012 and in 2014. The Lions are 17-4 at home, 3-13 on the road and 2-0 in a neutral site against the RiverHawks.

NCAA Team Stat Leaders

The Lions, as a team, rank 14th in three point attempts and scoring margin, while ranking 18th in total assists, 19th in total three pointers made, 21st in defensive rebounds per game, field goal percentage and scoring, 22nd in assist to turnover ratio, 25th in assists per game and total rebounds, 26th in three pointers per game and 28th in three point defense. The team also ranks 38th in rebound margin, while ranking 43rd in total rebounds per game and 46th in free throw attempts.

NCAA Individual Stat Leaders

Cam Martin ranks third in field goal percentage, while ranking 8th in double-doubles, ninth in free throw attempts, 16th in total points, 23rd in total field goals made and 25th in scoring. Martin ranks 48th in total rebounds. Elyjah Clark ranks 18th in three point attempts, 30th in minutes per game and 24th in total minutes, while ranking 49th in three pointers per game. Reggie Tharp ranks 8th in assist to turnover ratio and 43rd in total assists.


MIAA Team Stat Leaders


The Lions, as a team, lead the MIAA in three point attempts, three point defense and total rebounds. The team ranks second in assists per game, defensive rebounds per game, field goal percentage, rebound margin, scoring, scoring margin, three pointers per game, total three pointers made and total rebounds per game. Southern ranks third in assist to turnover ratio, offensive rebounds per game and fewest fouls per game.

MIAA Individual Stat Leaders


Cam Martin leads the MIAA in field goal percentage, double-doubles, free throw attempts, while ranking second in scoring, free throws made and total points. Elyjah Clark leads the MIAA in three point attempts and minutes per game, while ranking second in total minutes and third in total three pointers made. Reggie Tharp ranks second in the MIAA in steals per game and total steals.

Streak Stopper


Coming into the season Elyjah Clark had made a three pointer in 47-straight games, dating back to his freshman season. Clark, however, missed out on a three in the first game of the year, but has made a three in each game since, taking his current streak to 15.

National Ranking

The Lions are receiving votes in the NABC poll this week. In the history of the NABC Poll, the Lions have been ranked 58 times, including 23 consecutive weeks. The team has been No. 1 once (in the 2011 season).

Three-Point Streak

The Lions failed to make a three-pointer at Arkansas Tech in their match-up in 2012-13. It was the first time in 403 games that Southern had failed to hit a three pointer, dating back to Jan. 20, 1999 against Missouri S&T. The Lions have had a three in 189-straight games since Arkansas Tech in 2012-13.

Southern is averaging 88 points per game this season and the Lions have topped the century mark four times.

Bevo Francis Award Watchlist


Sophomore Cam Martin has been named to the Small College Basketball Bevo Francis Award Watchlist. The award is for the Division II Player of the Year.

Records Watch

Junior Elyjah Clark had the Missouri Southern single-season record for three pointers as a freshman with 89 and broke that record last year with 110. Clark has 246 career threes, passing Skyler Bowlin for second all-time against Central Oklahoma this year. He is well over three-quarters to the career record of 265 set by Austin Wright.

Reachin' A Grand

Elyjah Clark went over 1,000 points in his career with 18 points against Minnesota-Crookston in the Puerto Rico Tournament. He currently has 1,183 in his career and is the 21st person in MSSU history to crack the 1,000 point plateau. Clark has moved into 12th place all-time, passing both Marvin Townsend and Hiram Ocasio in the process. Next up is Russel Bland at 1,271 points.

Elyjah For ThreeClark has the top-two single-season three-point totals in MSSU history and his 246 threes made in his two-plus year career rank second. His career three-point percentage of .418 is second-best all-time, while he also tied the single-game record for three's made with nine. He has the season and career record for three pointers per game, while also holding the MSSU season and career record for consecutive games with a three (47).
