MSSU women fall to Missouri Western 69-57

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Southern women's basketball team got within four with 2:22 left in the fourth, but could not get over the hump as Missouri Western won 69-57 inside the MWSU Fieldhouse Thursday evening.

After finding themselves down 12-3 early in the first quarter, Missouri Southern (11-10, 3-8 MIAA) responded with an 8-0 run to get within one point twice until MWSU pushed forward to take an eight point advantage into halftime.

Senior guard Chelsey Henry recorded a team-high 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The pair of Krista Clark and Laure Assena each poured in seven points and combined for seven rebounds.

Forward Zoe Campbell added six points and a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.




The Griffons (10-9, 5-5 MIAA) extended their lead to 15 nearly half way through the third quarter (48-33). The Lions came right back on a 13-2 run in the closing five minutes of the third to cut the deficit to four heading into the final quarter of regulation (50-46).

The Lions are back in action on Saturday at 1:30 pm as they travel to battle Northwest Missouri State for the only matchup of the regular season.
