The Missouri Southern men's basketball team trailed by as many as eight and by six midway through the second half, but the Lions came-from-behind and took out visiting Southwest Baptist 73-68 tonight on Robert Corn Court inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Southern (13-3, 4-2 MIAA) was led by a double-double from Cam Martin as he scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in 32 minutes of work. He went 5-of-8 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. Elyjah Clark scored 18 points, going 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Clark now has 1,183 points in his career and moved into 13th place all-time, passing both Marvin Townsend and Hiram Ocasio in the process. Braelon Walker scored 14 points, playing the entire game, while Enis Memic scored ten off the bench.
SBU (8-7, 2-4 MIAA) had three score in double-figures, led by 23 points and 12 rebounds from Karin Mouliom.

The Lions jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first five minutes after a jumper from Martin. The Lead was 19-8 with 11 minutes left after a layup from Memic. The Bearcats, however, clawed back and tied the game at 25 with 5:52 to go and took a 27-25 lead the next trip down.
SBU led 29-25, but a 5-0 run from Walker, the second coming on a break-away three, gave the Lions a 30-29 lead with two minutes to go in the half. A fast-break bucket from Clark put the Lions up 32-31 late in the half and that proved to be the halftime score.
SBU started the second half on a 10-1 run and led 41-33 after a layup from Damian Prgomet with 17 minutes left in the half. A layup from Tharp cut the lead to five (43-38) with 15 minutes to go, but a three from the Bearcats the next trip down pushed the lead back to eight.
A putback from Walker after a missed free throw got the Lions back within four with just more than 12 to go, and a dunk from Martin with 11:19 left made the score 46-44. A three from Walker with 8:30 to go got the Lions within one (51-50) and after an SBU bucket, a pair of freebies from Martin kept the deficit at one.
A layup from Memic with 6:47 to go put the Lions back on top (54-43), and a pair of freebies from Clark made the score 56-53 with 5:45 left. A three from Parker Jennings with 3:40 to go pushed the Lions' lead to 62-57 and two freebies from Clark with 1:52 left made the score 66-62, Lions. A free throw from Walker gave the Lions a 69-64 lead with under 30 seconds left, and two more from Clark made the lead 71-66 with 8.8 to go in the game.
The Lions shot 43 percent from the field in the game and forced 12 turnovers, scoring 19 points off the miscues. Southern had just a 9-8 advantage on the offensive boards, but turned that into a 17-4 advantage in second-chance points.
Southern will be back in action on January 17 as the Lions travel to Northeastern State. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 pm.
