The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field teams will be in action this weekend as the Lions head to Pittsburg State to take part in the Pittsburg State Invitational hosted inside the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Events begin at 9:30 am with the 5k, while the field events begin at 11 am with the men's weight throw, long jump and high jump, as well as the women's shot put, long jump, and pole vault.
The Southern women come into the meet ranked 11th nationally. The women have ten NCAA provisional qualifying marks on the early season, as well as one NCAA automatic mark in Payton Roberts in the shot put.
Roberts ranks third nationally in the event, while Desirea Buerge is sixth. Morgan Smith ranks fifth in the 60m hurdles, while Elena Bisotto and Jordan Banker rank eighth in the pole vault. Jasmine Deckard is 14th in the 60m dash and Claire Luallen ranks 22nd in the pentathlon.
On the men's side, the Lions have seven NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Gideon Kimutai is ranked ninth in the 5k, while Brendan Watkins ranks 15th and 18th in the long and triple jump, respectively. Travis Petersen ranks 19th in the weight throw, while Dean Howard is 22nd in the pole vault. Jordyn Manier is 20th in the long jump and Adrian Broadus is 23rd in the triple jump.
