MSSU to play host to Lion Open and Multis track and field event beginning Friday

The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field teams will play host to the MSSU Lion Open and Multis this Friday and Saturday on Mercy Track inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Events will begin at 10 am with the pentathlon 60m hurdles. The field events will begin at 2 pm on Friday with the women's weight throw and the men's long jump, with running events starting at 5:30 pm. Events on Saturday begin at 9 am.




The Southern women come into the event ranked 10th nationally with 11 NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks and two Automatic Qualifying marks. Desirea Buerge and Payton Roberts have both qualified for the National Championships already in the shot put. Buerge broke the MSSU school record in the shot put this past weekend with a heave of 52-1.25.

The men have seven NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks, led by Brendan Watkins who has marks in both the long and triple jump. Dean Howard (pole vault), Jordyn Manier (long jump), Adrain Broadus (triple jump) and Travis Petersen (weight throw) all have provisionals for the Lions.
