(From MSSU Lions Athletic)

The Missouri Southern Lions (2-1) drummed host Rogers State (0-4) 5-0 Friday evening at Soldier Field.

The Lions got the scoring started in the 23rd minute when freshman Taylor Beck connected on a header near post off a cross by freshman Hannah Bomar. Junior Karley Thomas would add to the Lions lead in the second half in the 52nd minute as she scored her first goal of the season and beat the Hillcats goalie 1-on-1 on a through ball from fellow junior Kimmy Hulse. Hulse would add her second assist just three minutes later as she took a Lions corner kick to Bomar on the back post. Senior Casey Vitale would score the next goal of the night in the 66th minute as she beat the Rogers State goalie with a near post shot in the upper 90 off a pass from Bomar. Vitale would close the scoring out on another upper 90, this time on the back side, unassisted.

Southern out shot the Hillcats 14-8 as Bomar led the way with five, all five on goal. Senior Kelsey Haist took two shots along with Beck, and Vitale.

The Lions defense would allow just eight shots on the night and only two of those on goal as Senior goalkeeperBeth Hammons would come up with both saves in the first half.

The Lions will be back in action Sunday at 1pm as they host the Tigers of East Central in their home opener at Hal Bodon Field.
